Chickpea (Cicer arietinum)

Canada grows two types of chickpea: the larger kabuli-type (garbanzo) and smaller desi-type.  Chickpeas are grown in the southern portions of the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Canada is a competitive producer, processor and exporter of desi and kabuli-type chickpeas.  Split desi chickpea and desi chickpea flour are available from Canadian suppliers.
