South Pacific – (Toronto Centre for the Arts) Set on a tropical island during World War II, the musical tells the sweeping romantic story of two couples -- US Navy nurse Nellie Forbush and French plantation owner Emile de Becque and Navy Airman Joe Cable and a young local native girl Liat -- and how their happiness is threatened by the realities of war and by their own prejudices. http://www.southpacificontour.com/

Barrymore – (Elgin & Wintergarden Theatre Centre ) Christopher Plummer reprises his Tony-award winning role in a play set in 1942 recounting the story of legendary actor John Barrymore as he tries to re-create his performance of Richard III at the end of his life. http://www.barrymoretheplay.com/home

Oleanna – (The Young Centre for the Performing Arts) Soulpepper presents David Mamet's play about a relationship between a university professor and his student, which explores the dark side of social order and power. http://www.soulpepper.ca

The Fantasticks – (The Young Centre for the Performing Arts ) Soulpepper brings the longest-running musical in history to the stage with its production of The Fantasticks. The Magic Flute – (February 8 & February 10, Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts) A hit since its premiere in 1791, The Magic Flute features some of Mozart's most sublimely beautiful and purely infectious melodies. Nixon in China – (February 9 & 11, Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts) A minimalist opera about the former U.S. president’s diplomatic visit to Mao Tse-tung’s China in 1972. Visual Arts
Tim Burton Exhibition and Retrospective – (TIFF Bell Lightbox ) The exhibition will contemplate Burton's career as a director, producer, writer and concept artist for live-action and animated films, along with his work as a fiction writer, photographer and illustrator. The exhibition will also explore the development of Burton’s visual imagination from his earliest childhood efforts through his mature work. http://tiff.net/shows/timburton

El Anatsui : When I Last Wrote to You about Africa – (The Royal Ontario Museum ) The Institute for Contemporary Culture hosts the North American premiere of El Anatsui: When I Last Wrote to You about Africa, a career retrospective of the internationally renowned artist. http://www.rom.on.ca/exhibitions/current.php

Maharaja: The Splendour of India’s Royal Courts - (Art Gallery of Ontario) This exhibit includes more than 200 pieces reflective of affluent Indian culture and history, with a rich selection of paintings, tapestries, weapons, thrones and jewellery. These visually stunning objects show the importance of art in ancient Indian culture, symbolizing the status and power of the Royal Court. The exhibit's stop at the AGO is the only Canadian showing of the priceless artifacts. http://www.ago.net
