Evaluating Field Pea and Faba Bean Germplasm for Alberta Growers

Pulses are grown by approximately 5000 producers in Alberta, and that number is steadily increasing. To remain competitive and further expand acres and exports, these producers need access to the best pulse varieties and newest pulse crops possible. The goal of this research project is to increase Alberta pulses from 5% of the annual cropped acres (1 million) to 15% (3 million) over the next decade and to identify superior pulse varieties suitable for Alberta producers.

This project is comprised of three distinct components: (1) screening new pulse genetics; (2) the western Canadian pulse co-op testing; (3) and the regional pulse testing.
