British Journal of Nutrition - Special issue on pulse nutrition & health research Click HERE for more details
August 10, 2010
Guest Editors Carla Taylor (University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada) Martine Champ (University Nantes/INRA, France) Special issue managing editor: Carol Ann Patterson (Pathfinders Research & Management, Saskatoon, Canada) Focus Pulses (dry peas, beans, chickpeas and lentils) are increasingly recognized around the world as healthy foods. They are rich in protein, dietary fibre, vitamins and minerals and are low in fat. Consumption of pulses provides health benefits rivaled by few other foods. Ongoing research is examining how whole pulses, and the individual components of pulses, offer protective and therapeutic effects to chronic health conditions such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer. Promoting and incorporating pulses as part of a healthy diet could help reduce the burden of these “lifestyle” diseases. This special issue in the British Journal of Nutrition is seeking original and unpublished contributions on pulse nutrition and health including, but not limited to: - Obesity and weight management
- Children’s health and nutrition
- Consumer dietary patterns
- Nutrition and/or health benefits of pulse fractions, micronutrients and phytochemicals
- Nutritional requirements and behaviour
- Chronic diseases and/or biomarkers (e.g. cardiovascular, diabetes, cancer)
