2010 National Competition
The 2010 M:I national competition took place during the CSCA annual convention in Saskatoon this past July.
First place winners from each provincial competition were invited to compete for the top prize of $2500 and a second place prize of $1000.
| Dylan MacKay of Manitoba won first prize for his tasty rendition of the traditional perogy, the 'pea-rogy', shown at right. The 'pea-rogy' uses a 50:50 chickpea flour to wheat flour dough that is filled with both mashed potatoes and chickpeas. Congratulations Dylan! |
| Second place was awarded to Sharon Booy and Amy Symington from George Brown College, a culinary institute in Toronto, Ontario. Sharon and Amy developed a gourmet pea tart that is not only vegetarian, but gluten-free as well. The pea tart has a delicious filling of white pea bean and cheddar cheese, sauteed mushrooms, fresh peas and lentils and is served in a sweet potato and chickpea pastry. |
