Maritimes

On March 30, 2012, Pulse Canada with Mount Saint Vincent University held the first Mission: ImPULSEible in the Maritimes. Seven teams entered the competition from various institutions on Canada’s east coast and many enthusiastic fans came out to support the participants, including MSVU research and commercialization staff as well as the chair of the department.  MSVU, Acadia University, Holland College of PEI, as well as students from eastern culinary schools contended for the grand prize. Products entered included Soufflé, chocolate covered black beans, chocolate torte, gluten-free doughnuts, energy bars and breakfast cereals.

Mission: ImPULSEible drew some interest from the media out east! Check out this clip from CBC around the 18 minute mark!

First Place was awarded to Karyn Sunohara and Micah Grobman (far right with Tanya Der, Pulse Canada) from Acadia University for their Dark chocolate black bean truffle torte (pictured right) with a crunchy chickpea and nut crust. Best of luck to Karyn and Micah at the National M:I competition in Montreal this June.

Second Place went to Elizabeth Muggah (Left) from Acadia University for her product, Suffels dessert (shown below), a pudding and soufflé hybrid made with chickpea flour.

Third Place went to Mallory Frayn and Jonah Kimmel from Holland College for their delicious Maple candied black beans covered in Belgian chocolate.
